Arvind Das of Belarahi (Madhubani) - an emerging media scholar with a difference

Today we are talking about a man of high calibre and low profile who is an erudite in mass communication and hails from a remote village of Bihar named Belarahi of Madhubani district. His academic path traversed from Economics (Graduate, DU) to Hindi literature (M.Phil, Doc, JNU),  IIMC, FTII, and then to Siegen Univ. (Germany). From a typical rustic background to a superbly sophisticated environs of Germany, he is an epitome of the saying that if Bihari decides for something,  he would put in all his mind, soul and body to achieve that.  He has made Bihar proud by his remarkable achievements in media studies and his recent comparative study of Religion, Politics and Media in Indian vis-a-vis German perspective has been making the rounds among Journalists of significance in national arena.  Arvind gives it all to his father Sri Aniruddh Das, who has been a man of immaculate character throughout his life and who remained undeterred even in the most trying circumstances. He is very attached to his mother, an idol of affection and is extremely thankful to his wife to whom he could take recourse to whenever he needed.

Arvind Das is a journalist and researcher, currently working at Infotainment Television (ITV), New Delhi, which produces current affairs programmes. Earlier a consultant for BBC, New Delhi, Das has a rich experience in print and electronic media. He is author of a book Hindi Mein Samachar (News in Hindi), co-edited Religion, Politics and Media: German and Indian perspectives and has presented several research papers on Indian media in national and international seminars. A graduate in Economics from University of Delhi, Das has a PG diploma in journalism from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), New Delhi. Being a film enthusiast, he has also done a film appreciation course from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. He completed an MPhil degree in Hindi literature and a PhD thesis on Hindi journalism from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. As a doctoral candidate in JNU, he also received a Junior Research Fellowship of the University Grants Commission (UGC). Later, he was awarded the German Research Foundation (DFG) Fellowship for pursuing post-doctoral work at Siegen University, Germany.
