Jehanabad: 30 December. Dr Nitu Kumari Navgeet, famous folk singer and writer, has been nominated as the district icon/ambassador under Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation or SVEEP. She has been nominated on recommendation of District Magistrate cum District Election Officer Dr Alok Ranjan Ghosh.
SVEEP is the flagship programme of the Election Commission of India that aims at promoting voter literacy.
‘Greater participation for a stronger democracy’ being the theme, the DEO identifies an icon under SVEEP for each district. Dr Nitu Kumari Navgeet, who belongs to Shakurabad village would tour public places, villages, colleges and other public places to spread voter awareness. Nitu Navgeet has written many songs on women empowerment, Child literacy and cleanliness. Awarded with Bihar Kokila Samman, Lichchhavi Samman, Rastriya Yuva Kala Samman, Jagjanani Samman, Sanmarg Womens Empowerment Award, Gopal Singh Nepali Samman, Navgeet is on a new mission now- spread the message to be a proud voter and motivate the youth for qualitative and Inclusive participation in electoral system. She will participate in the programs organised by Election Commission on Votes Awareness, EVM and other Election related activities on National Voter's Day which is observed every year on 25th January and also in other programs.
