G.S. Dutta is no more who contributed to evolution of unified culture of Bihar through construction of Ganga Bridge


Er. Gauri Shankar Dutta


      Mr. Gauri Shankar Dutta, Engineer-in-Chief (Rtd.), Building Construction Department, Government of Bihar, died peacefully at the age of 87 on 31st May, 2017, at his residence in Patna. While in service, he was associated with many prestigious road, building and bridge projects in Bihar. In 1982, when he was an Executive Engineer and in-charge of Ganga Bridge Project, the road bridge in Patna over river Ganga, which is one of the longest bridges in the country, was inaugurated by Mrs. Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India. 


      He has left behind three sons namely Ashok Dutt, who retired as Executive Director, Dena Bank, Binay Dutta, who served as Managing Director of various banks in a couple of countries in Africa and Vijay Dutta who is currently posted as Asst. General Manager and Zonal Head, Muzaffarpur Zone of Allahabad Bank.

  2. A great soul has left for the heavenly abode. The greatness probably doesn't go with the fact what big achievements one has made in the lifetime. How humble and subdued you remain with people around and down the line even after achieving the milestones - that really makes you great. If someone matched my father's simplicity and accessibility it was Mr Dutt, Bauji as we fondly called him. Both of them have left us creating a vacuum...it's trying time...S.Narayan, Ranchi
